Dub and Roots Meet in Bordeaux
rdg tribe present Dialog and Benji (live) at Les Vivres de l’Art
Next weekend, on November 22, at Les Vivres de l’Art in Bordeaux, rdg tribe will be hosting an evening that’s all about the interplay of sounds, from the deep rhythms of dub to ambient textures and techno pulses. Fueled by a custom-made sound system and set in an 18th-century venue, the night brings together a lineup that mixes dub, techno, ambient, and downtempo, offering a unique space for music lovers to unwind and connect.
VENUE: Les Vivres de l’Art
Les Vivres de l’Art, located on Rue Achard in the Bacalan district, is one of Bordeaux’s cultural gems. Once a supply depot for the French navy, it’s now a hub for artists and a venue for cultural events, thanks to the efforts of artist Jean-François Buisson. With its historic stone walls, open-air spaces, and gardens, the venue’s atmosphere captures the grit and character of Bordeaux’s past while serving as a vibrant spot for the city’s creative scene.
Last summer, the rdg tribe built their own custom sound system, staying true to their DIY ethos. This system has become a staple at all their events, including this one. It is specifically designed to provide a rich and unfiltered audio experience, fostering a closer connection between the artist and the audience.
THE LINE UP:
Kicking off the evening, Low Viatiques is a project known as the contemplative side of infamous Les Viatiques crew and their raves. Their style is thoughtful, moving from atmospheric soundscapes to steady, deep rhythms that ease the crowd into a relaxed state. Often associated with smaller, more intimate gatherings, their sets are unhurried, focusing on subtle transitions that allow listeners to fully sink into the moment.
Dialog, the collaboration between Samuel van Dijk and Rasmus Hedlund, brings a mix of dub, electronics, and a respect for Rastafarian roots. With Benji’s vocals, this live act is both rhythmic and reflective. Dialog doesn’t fit neatly into one genre, blending dub with electronic textures, bass-heavy beats, and a nod to Berlin’s experimental music scene. Benji’s voice adds weight, grounding their set with messages that reflect a deep respect for the culture behind the sounds. Expect a performance that balances rhythm and voice, keeping the crowd locked in but with plenty of room for thought.
Closing out the night is Javier Salazar, a duo that blends deep techno with dub and experimental influences. Their sets are immersive journeys with rich textures, pulsing bass, and a dedication to exploring different moods. Salazar’s selections are broad. They’re not afraid to move from hypnotic, deep techno rhythms to more laid-back dub passages, creating a sense of flow that’s as suited to dancing as it is to simply losing yourself in the music. They play with contrast, shifting between intensity and calm, making them an ideal closer for an evening that values variety and atmosphere.
