Best New Mixes from September

September mixes bring us more clubby oriented mixes with of course few exceptions. As usual, we have compiled the list of mixes by international and local DJ's from the festivals and clubs around the world, podcasts and radio shows. Pick the one that you like and enjoy the ride

Cleveland - Planet Cleveland E01, Red Light Radio

Cleveland is one of the artists in which we pay close attention to his work. The super talented artist who has incredible releases on labels like Hivern Discs and ESP Institute, built a name for himself as a DJ with a very wide spectrum of music. We really enjoy listening to his mixes of non-club music. Recently he started ‘Planet Cleveland’, a radio show on Red Light Radio, and judging by the first episode we are set for a treat. Long live ‘ Planet Cleveland’ !

Aera - Christallization #198

In April this year, we had the honor to host one of the most talented artists from the scene at this moment, Berlin-based Aera. That night he showed us that he’s not just incredibly talented music producer but a fantastic DJ as well. Aera recently paid a visit to one of our favorite radio shows, Kristijan Molnar’s 'Christallization' where he delivered a beautiful, versatile mix that we listened to couple a of times already. Tracks by Oceanic, Davis, Joakim, Nuno Dos Santos, and Aera himself to name a few add up to a pleasurably spent one hour.

After a palette of unique and very interesting releases and numerous appearances at festivals and clubs around the world in the last couple of months, Davis has established a name for himself as a prolific producer and DJ with a very unique and versatile style. The latest mix of his is a new edition of Oddcast, and it’s a true journey for every music lover. It unfolds slowly, with beautiful ambient and downtempo tracks up until 50min or so when Davis puts it in a ‘second gear’ and takes a listener to a powerful and intense techno journey.

Ripperton - Fiction Sunset Boat Cruise Afterparty 08.19.2017

We had the honor to host one of the best producers and DJs in the underground electronic music scene, Ripperton. It was a beautiful summer night in August, and we just finished an unforgettable boat cruise around NYC. Masters of their work, Love Over Entropy and Ripperton took us on an astonishing music journey that fit perfectly with the sunset over the Manhattan skyline. Next stop was Bushwick AV rooftop and a continuation of an already epic night. After warm-up sets by Fiction residents, the one & only – Ripperton took over. He delivered a mind-bending groovy, dark mix that was quite a continuation of his set on the boat. Tracks by Tom Trago, Quarion, Villalobos, and Ripperton himself make this mix really special.

Nuno Dos Santos - Atomnation 011

For the latest Atomnation’s podcast, Nuno Dos Santos, the SoHaSo label boss took us for a little different ride. A ride that we utterly enjoyed. Nuno made this mix strictly in break beat and acid style, and it’s perfect. A few words about the mix from Nuno himself: "With this podcast, I wanted to indulge a bit more in the broken beat side of things. A bit higher tempo and rougher mixes besides some electro stuff that I have been appreciating a lot lately. It includes two tracks by SoHaSo label artists which are yet to be released and some other surprises so no tracklist. I always thought it is really cool to discover things by looking hard and doing research and only after some time find the record you’ve been looking for. Oh that’s the one! Now it’s track id’s everywhere, everything is a bit pre-processed in that sense… Happy searching!"

Mathias Schober - This is us: Lossless

Lossless is a label that we support a lot here on Fiction Lab. The reason is simple, label bosses Mathias Schober and Thomas Herb, pay attention to every little detail when it comes to each release that comes out with a Lossless stamp. This mix is exclusive for Amsterdam’s music platform, Liquid Youth, and it was made by Mathias Schober, an artist who we believe deserves much more recognition for what he has given to electronic music in last 15+ years. The mix was named ‘This is Us: Lossless’ and its purpose is to present what the Lossless label is all about. During the mix Mathias often changes atmosphere and mood, showing that Lossless is not a ‘one-way’ label. Lossless has taken a risk with some of their releases in past, not playing safe and always ‘dance floor friendly’, but that only had a positive impact and gained them recognition from both people in the industry and everyday fans. Lossless is for sure one of our favorite labels out there.

Artists of the moment contender, Belfast based duo Bicep. Their debut LP on Ninja Tune hit the shelves in September and became a huge international success. A few weeks ago Bicep paid a short visit to The Boom Room radio in Amsterdam and played a 30min mix there. Shorter than you expect from a standardized one-hour mixes nowadays, but the mix is energetic and powerful and it’ll be a great ‘wake up’ or ‘get ready to go out’ mix. Turn the volume up!
